ABOUT THE BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES CONFERENCE

Picture
Hello parents! We have something to get excited about and look forward to! As a parent of a child with autism, I am VERY excited to tell you about the upcoming conference "Building Healthy Families" that the Arc of the Ozarks is hosting at the University Plaza and Convention Center on March 10th, 2012. This will be a great day in the Southwest Missouri autism community for families, educators, providers, neighbors - for ANYONE who has an interest in BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES! Please mark your calendars and go online RIGHT NOW to www.thearcoftheozarks.org - don't delay. Avoid the rush and save yourself the late registration fee by registering as soon as possible.
Hold on to your seats...you will also be thrilled to hear about the wonderful respite that is being collaboratively planned and organized by the Recreational Staff at the Arc along with Touch Point Autism Services! Your child will spend the day in a highly structured setting with experienced, professional staff getting things like PET THERAPY, MUSIC THERAPY, TAEKWONDO CLASS, DOING CRAFTS, GOING SWIMMING, PLAYING GAMES...WOW! Your child can be dropped off at the Arc, and when the conference is over, they will be brought by bus to you at the conference - and here's the best part...this is all absolutely free to you while you attend the conference. Yes, you are reading this correctly - respite is being provided courtesy of The Arc of the Ozarks and Touch Point Autism Services. This service is being provided absolutely free to families who are attending the conference!
Here is the catch though, there are only 20 slots available and you absolutely must register by the deadline of February 15th. A lot of planning and hard work is going into organizing the respite program. Walk ins and late registration cannot be permitted due to the fact that the staff are committed to planning and being prepared to provide the best quality respite care possible to the children in respite.

There is a small fee of $30 for the conference itself, which also includes lunch. With the great line up of speakers, particularly the internationally known and loved speaker Dr. Stephen Shore...$30 is a drop in the bucket to pay for the quantity and quality of great information you will be receiving! It just doesn't get any better than this. Please pass on the great news of this wonderful conference that is taking place in our community to all your contacts and to anyone else who may have an interest in Building Healthy Families - this will be the event of the year!
The Arc of the Ozarks is a wonderful organization in Springfield - probably the best kept secret in Springfield! We have gotten to know some of the folks who work there, and must tell you that everyone there has a heart to serve, and is a professional of the highest caliber. They have a great vision, and it's obvious that they have heart for what they are doing - and for the individuals they serve. It's been a privilege and an honor for SWAN parents to be invited to help plan and organize this conference. SWAN gives The Arc of the Ozarks our deepest gratitude for taking on the task of hosting what is without a doubt going to be an incredible conference for families affected by autism!

Dr. Grant To Give Seminar

On February 11, 2012, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., at 922 W. Republic Road, Dr. Grant will be presenting information to help us better understand some of the options that are available for treating autism. He will talk about 30 of the most popular evidence based treatment approaches that are available today. Dr. Grant has generously donated his service to offer this seminar free of charge.

Paint Among Friends has given SWAN a special discount that allows us to
offer a special painting activity for children five and older while parents attend the seminar. If you would like your child to participate in this activity, you must R.S.V.P.! This special painting activity is $10.00 which will include a painting lesson, canvas, apron, paint and brushes for each child participating. This is regularly a $25.00 value! Normally, the painting activity is held at the Paint Among Friends studio...but the staff have generously agreed to bring the supplies to the children in respite while parents attend the seminar!

There is no fee for respite. If for whatever reason your child/children are not able to participate in this activity - don't worry, there will be plenty of fun activities to keep them busy. This will be a great seminar, and a great chance to connect and network with others in the community. Feel free to
bring refreshments to share, we look forward to seeing you!
